Fantasy Photos

We are working on ways to take our Fantasy Photos on the road.

We are putting out the idea to work with other studios and offer them the green screen experience.

We  bring all the costumes and all the equipment necessary, supplying you with adverts to promote sittings, for a full day shoot, (or weekend). We just turn up, do the work and supplying you with images to show to your clients. We print the images and send them to you direct. We supply everything - and just  take a commission on all sales.

Another Snow Shot.

Couldn't resist taking a picture this morning as I walked into the studio the light was just right, falling nicely over the abbey (just opposite the studio).

The Snow depth measured 10" last night. getting hard to work now, I can walk in, but not everybody is so lucky.

Christmas Portraits

Have been shooting Christmas Portraits in the studio. the time of year is now here that the world and his brother all want to cram in a shoot in the next few weeks.

As well as the normal family groups I always capture the individuals as well. makes the whole day more creative, and gets me thinking of different ways to shoot, keeps me on my toes.

But still doing park sessions (when the weather permits) there is something about fallen leaves.

This image had the family in tears today
(and that was even before I told them the price)

Hot Press

I have been using my new studio toy over the last few days.
A Hot Press (260 Vacuum Press) that heat seals, laminates and mounts your work on foam-board.
The results are STUNNING, and working out the saving is wonderful. Saved nearly £156 in the first week. At this rate it will pay for itself before the end of the January.

The photographer who refuses HELP!

Yesterday I had been invited into a Photographers studio in York called Past Images (they work on green screen for the tourists, selling them pictures set in the past). I myself have a photograph on my wall that he took, so know what he does quite well and I like what they do.

Past Images Facebook Fan Page Link

One of the partners of the business met me at a theatrical job I was working on last week. He was very interested in the way we worked, as we were printing on site with 2 Dye Sub machines. (I noticed him taking pictures over my shoulder as I was selling prints).

As the BIPP’s New Members Liaison Officer I have met many photographers, and often visit them in their studio, but this time it was doubly of interest to see him as I have also just branched into green screen photography. He was a very nice man and suggested a pool of ideas (suppliers and equipment and the odd exchange of idea or two). A Friendly and down to earth guy called Jonah.

However when I turned up, things could not have been more different. Jonah, although was supposed to be there, was not. But his business partner was.

He was not so much of a nice man. As soon as he found out I was a photographer he told me he was not tell me anything about HIS business. And he was “NOT going to share ANYTHING with YOU” (said as he looked down his nose at us, as if we were something he had just scraped off the bottom of his shoe). He then tried the guilt trip on us saying

“This is what puts food on my table, this is what FEEDS MY CHILDREN”

Yes business is business, but nothing that I said or did could convince this man I was trying to help him. Then when I produced a Sub Dye printer cattalog from my bag and handed it to him he just chucked it down, and virtually ordered us out the shop, saying “this is getting my hackles up”.

I have NEVER been so humiliated in my life. I had been invited into his shop by his partner. This is my own time I have invested to help his business. But obviously he thinks he doesn’t need help, as he has "been in business for 7 years now, and your not getting anything from me".

Well lets start with why it takes an hour to convert a badly lit green screen picture into a print. If done correctly, with the right software (which I was going to show him) I can do the same, from download to print in 3 minutes.

I had a whole host of information for him, but he just wanted me out of his shop. He really does not know what he has just missed out on.

So to the Other partner of Past images in York (who wouldn’t even give me his name) . . . .

I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK, BECAUSE . . . HELL YOU NEED IT.

Model Competition

Expressions Photographic / Selby Times / Selby Hands of Hope / Maverick Models
FACE LOOK COMPETITION

All Week we have been working with a selection of young models who all want to make it in the modeling industry.

Just to make it different, I have been shooting in Selby Park. A Wonderful place that has so many different locations, it makes fashion portraits just ideal.

With age groups from
10 to 13,
14 to 17
over 18's

Shooting in the park is addictive, I have a family shoot the start of next week I might just take to the park for a quick shoot (the park is just opposite the studio)

Some of them want to pose themselves, where others have to be sculpted.

Pictures in the Park

The camera gave an odd colour shift on this one, so I kept it, gives it an almost night time feel to it.

Have been shooting on location as a test shoot, let me know what you think.
Starting my Pictures in the park sessions soon.
Using a cross between reflectors and off camera flash.

But note, there is an issue with taking lights out on location as within the first 2 minutes the smallest breeze blew my lighting stand over and flattened my brand new umbrella.
